Royal Javanese ‘Konde’ by Barli Asmara

I guess ‘Konde’–traditional hair bun originated in Java–from Barli Asmara’s Royal Javanese show is a major highlight here…

Barli play with Javanese traditional dancer clothes here. He admit that Bedaya Ketawang dancer was one of his inspiration of the collection. “You could see the silhouttes. It is still applicable for an international gown,” said Barli. Yes it is true. Barli didn’t go literally and being too ethnic. He give it a twist. There are kawung and truntum motifs everywhere.

He also played with ruffles and laser cut on kawung motifs everywhere. Barli also put an acrylic corset to model’s waist. Barli had an incredible detail on this collection. We should admit that he hit the right note this time.

But, those konde still reminds me with Dendam Nyi Pelet, and i do said it to Mas Barli after the show. It’s Nyi Pelet from modern era, they curse people via iPhone 6 i guess. Hehe

I guess the accessories put the model on a dificult movement on their neck.

Andien was the only girl that did not wear the giant bun. It’s simply because: “We lost her konde,” said Barli. Yes, it suddenly dissapeared. And Bali decided that Andien not wearing a giant bun while opening the show.

Andien was sang 'Gemilang'. A song that popularized by Krakatau group band and Trie Utami was a lead vocal back then.

Andien and Dian Sastro also awarded a souvenir from Caroun Paris–it is one of many sponsors for Barli Asmara–that night. But, i do admire Barli’s craftmanship this time. Two thumbs up!

Didi Budiardjo’s Imaginary Adventure

It’s all about adventure. But it is a fiction. It is ‘Criterion’ from one of Indonesia’s prominent designer Didi Budiardjo. His presentation tell us about an adventure of 12 quirky-lil bit preppy-laid back girls around the world. That’s why there are a hot air balloon there. I guess it’s ready to bring those girls everywhere that they want to.

Ready to fly!

Ready to fly!

It is full of details. We could se Japan, Europe, Russia, to Sumba from his collection. All of it are very well ornamented. And yes, it is really bohemian and lil bit hippies. Didi said that he also realize the fashion trend for next year it’s all about bo-ho. So, those colourful pattern and floral answered it all.

Yes, it is a glorious collection.

Yes, it is a glorious collection.

Earlier this month, Didi Budiardjo celebrated his 25th year on fashion industry here in Indonesia. Most of his clientele is local. “I guess the market here is enough,” he said. Mas Didi would prepare on his grand exhibition earlier next year. He said it would tell us about ‘Pilgrimage’. (I’m curious about this)

Oh ya, did u all notice the sneakers? Yes it is Nike, but Didi put a beading on it. Well, the idea to ‘put a sequin on a Nike’ i guess not a good one. But still, the collection is superb!

This one is really cool!

Sapto Djojokartiko’s Penara

What did Sapto Djojokartiko wanna say by putting a ruin of Hellenic statue in the middle of the set? Did his collection inspired from Greek or Romans? In fact, it is not. “I did not wanna look too ethnic,” he said. Sapto would like to put a global taste on his collection, and of course a lot of drama and showmanship on it.

One of the set was nearly unfinished said one of my friend from the comittee. It was totally a great show.

The inspiration is about ‘Penara’. It’s an equipment to do a manual print on batik by hand (or in some case it could be with machine). But we didn’t expect that the presentation was really far-far away from his inspiration. With a string quartet play a music illustration, the models showed off the collections. Mostly on off white tone and grey.

The detail was embellished embroidery on symmetrical patterns. He also played on sheer material and sometimes put a boyish tailoring on some jacket. The show was simply made all the audiences said uh-and-ah. It simply because they much mesmerized.

It is a dramatic presentation. It's simply beyond expectation and one of the best show in Bazaar Fashion Festival plus IPMI Trend Show.

To read my article on Tempo.co, you could see it here. Sapto had a consistency with his dramatic show. Last season, he presented his collection by made all the models walk with a mask on a finale of his fashion show. I would wait for his collection on Jakarta Fashion Week. I hope it is surprising.

The details is really great.

This one is impressive. But kinda risky for the model, if you know what i'm talking about.

Really Hellenic. He trick us. You wont know that it comes from Penara if Sapto did not tell you. Very clever.

Suvarnabhumi, a Golden Land from Mel Ahyar

Final presentation. I do love the way that they do a presentation on White Cube Arena. It is also great to see such presentation. Could u imagine they also played a fragment from a song called 'Gending Sriwijaya' ?

I do enjoy every single collection that Mel Ahyar made. She had a great talent, and really great details on her couture collections. With those intricate details, we as Indonesian should proud of her craftmanship.

Suvarnabhumi is really a collection of dramatic intricate details that Mel Ahyar and Diela Maharani as an illustrator made on collaboration. Mel Ahyar try to tell us a story about Sriwijaya, a glorious ancient empire in Sumatra centuries ago. “A lot of cultural mix on going there,” said Mel. She refers to Middle Eastern, Indian, Malayan, Chinese and more cultural mix on Sriwijaya at that time.

She created a floral embroidery and also motif from Diela’s illustration. Diela’s depicts an image of Sriwijaya’s woman that wore a traditional clothes with a tiara–it also looks like a Thai dancer–on black and nude lace. Dont forget an impressive head piece from Rinaldy A Yunardi that could simply makes your jaws drop.

I guess this one is my favourite piece from the collection. Those headpiece (or earpiece? LOL) make them looks like a fairy god mother.

Preambule

‘Preppy’ is one word that describe me. “You are the most preppiest guy from T*mp* that i ever met. You look different than the other,” said one of my colleague one day in House of Representatives. It happens while i’m doing a coverage for hard news around two years ago.

My former boss also said that i’m too stylish for a reporter in our group. “It seems that you will fit to cover lifestyle,” he said.  Yes he is right. I was said blatantly that i want to be a lifestyle journalist since the final interview on recruitment. But, it did not come suddenly. They keep me to cover Economy, Metropolitan (including criminal cases), and then National issues (Defense and later on Politics).

It took two years for me to struggle on hard news before a heartwarming news (for me) on January finally come. “You will be on lifestyle desk starting on next month,” said my boss back then. And voila! I do LOVE my job now. It does not matter how tiring it was, but i have fun while doing on it.

So, this blog will contains all of my previous publications and (hopefully) on going publications about lifestyle (it is including fashion, culinary reviews and hangout). I would add any information behind the stories if it necessary.  I hope you guys will enjoy this blog! 🙂

Am i preppy enough?

Am i preppy enough?

PS: I guess, this blog will flood with a lot of my previous article. A lot of people ask me to start this blog, so i guess i should get rid on it. :p
