I do enjoy every single collection that Mel Ahyar made. She had a great talent, and really great details on her couture collections. With those intricate details, we as Indonesian should proud of her craftmanship.
Suvarnabhumi is really a collection of dramatic intricate details that Mel Ahyar and Diela Maharani as an illustrator made on collaboration. Mel Ahyar try to tell us a story about Sriwijaya, a glorious ancient empire in Sumatra centuries ago. “A lot of cultural mix on going there,” said Mel. She refers to Middle Eastern, Indian, Malayan, Chinese and more cultural mix on Sriwijaya at that time.
She created a floral embroidery and also motif from Diela’s illustration. Diela’s depicts an image of Sriwijaya’s woman that wore a traditional clothes with a tiara–it also looks like a Thai dancer–on black and nude lace. Dont forget an impressive head piece from Rinaldy A Yunardi that could simply makes your jaws drop.
